1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to us all. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
Don't you just love the classic cartoon scene where there is a little angel sitting on one shoulder and a little devil sitting on the other? Each is trying to convince the person--or duck or sponge or whatever--to make a decision, either good or bad. Usually the little devil wins out. He always seems to be more convincing with his arguments and his ideas sound like more fun. Of course, the bad decisions constantly lead to trouble, but those cartoon characters just never learn, do they?
It's real life, too. We often have decisions to make, and we usually know what the right choice is. But somehow, there's this voice--it could be the voice of our best friend or somebody we're trying to impress--that tells us to lighten up and live a little. The voice tries to convince us that our values are out of style, that everybody's doing it, that we'll never get caught anyway. The voice always seems believable and we soon become convinced that making the wrong choice isn't that big of a deal.
It's called temptation, and we're faced with it all the time. The Bible says that temptation is a fact of life. It first comes into play on page 3, when the serpent is trying to convince Eve to eat the fruit.
But the Bible also says that God has promised we'll never be tempted beyond what we can stand up to. God will always provide us with a way out.
